In therapy with clients, I am understanding, nonjudgmental, accepting, honest, empathetic, and compassionate. Me being this way helps clients feels safe and comfortable enough to talk to me about what they are struggling with, the difficult and sometimes painful emotions that they feel, and how they want to behave differently in their lives.
While focusing on my relationship with clients, and how I am treating them, I also do
compassion-focused therapy with clients. I focus strongly on helping clients be more
compassionate with themselves, to help them be more understanding, non-judgmental, and kind about the difficult thoughts, emotions, and memories they may be experiencing, how hard it is for them to experience this, and how hard it has been for them to not be behaving how they want to.
Having compassion for yourself helps you be more aware when you are experiencing difficult thoughts, emotions, and memories, and more aware of how you are behaving, helps you understand why you are having these difficult thoughts, emotions, and memories, and why you are behaving in the way that you are, helps you feel safe enough to allow yourself to experience your difficult thoughts, emotions, and memories, which along with your understanding and inner wisdom helps you know what you can do to help yourself, and then your compassion for yourself then gives you the courage to do what you need to do to help yourself, and helps you behave how you want to.
Overall, having compassion for yourself can help you to stop being mean to yourself and
criticizing yourself, work effectively with difficult thoughts, emotions, and memories, help you behave how you want to, help you be productive, and help you communicate and treat the people that you love in the way that you want to. Compassion-focused therapy also helps people have more compassion for other people, and helps people be able to accept and receive compassion from other people. Having compassion for yourself, along with having more compassion for other people, and being able to accept and receive compassion from other people, helps clients communicate and treat the people that they love in the way that they want to, and helps them to feel safe enough to accept and receive the love from the people that they love give to them.
